Same-day Crowns: An Improved Smile in One Visit
Want a restored, beautiful smile in just one dental visit? Fixing broken, decayed or otherwise damaged teeth with the placement of a dental crown usually takes at least two dental appointments with weeks between them. But with same-day crowns, the latest technology in dental crown placement, you only need to schedule one office visit, during which time your tooth will be prepared, a digital impression of your mouth will be made and your crown will be fabricated and placed. No more juggling dental work around a busy schedule, or waiting weeks for your permanent crown. Same-day crowns allow you — and your restored, beautiful smile — to get back to life immediately.
What Can Same-day Crowns Fix?
Like standard dental crowns (ones that are placed over two office visits), same-day crowns can be used to fix the following:
- Broken or damaged teeth
- Teeth weakened by a filling, root canal or trauma
- Misshapen or worn-down teeth
What Are the Benefits of Same-day Crowns?
Same-day crowns have the same benefits as dental crowns, but also offer these additional benefits:
- Placed in only one office visit
- Eliminate wait time between visits (often weeks)
- Temporary crown isn’t needed (lessening the chance of complications caused by an improper fit)
- Tooth-colored materials blend in with surrounding teeth
- Results are durable and long-lasting
The Crown Placement Process for Same-day Crowns
The placement process for a same-day crown begins with your tooth being prepared to receive the crown; this step involves reducing the size of your tooth. Next, we will use a special camera to create a digital impression of your bite. We will use this advanced technology to construct your crown in our office, using a CAD/CAM milling machine. Once the crown has been created, it is placed in your mouth to ensure a proper, comfortable fit. Any necessary adjustments can then be made right there in the office. Once a secure fit has been achieved, the permanent crown is bonded in place using dental cement.
The same-day crown placement process takes about one to two hours, depending on the extent of the work and the number of teeth worked on, providing the same durable, natural-looking results after just one day (instead of weeks) of treatment.
