Porcelain Veneers in La Jolla, Del Mar, & Pacific Beach
Want to instantly improve the look of your smile? Dental veneers are a simple, durable solution to unsightly teeth problems. Veneers are thin shells comprised of tooth-colored materials (often porcelain or resin composite) that are custom-made to fit the size, shape and color of your teeth. Once bonded to the front surface of your teeth, veneers can transform your smile from uneven or broken to beautiful. And since veneers also protect your teeth from bacteria that can cause tooth decay, they may prevent you from needing further (and often more extensive) dental treatments. Read on to learn more about dental veneers, and how you can enjoy the benefits of a dazzling new smile that is both natural-looking and resilient.
What Can Veneers Fix?
Dental veneers can be used on upper or lower teeth with the following dental problems:
- Stains or discoloration
- Cracks, chips or an unappealing shape
- Eroded enamel
How Are Veneers Placed?
Since dental veneers are typically placed in two stages, you can expect to make two visits to our office. Each stage is painless, and typically requires only a local anesthetic to ensure that you are completely comfortable and relaxed. During your first visit, we will remove a small amount of enamel (about 0.5 mm or about the thickness of the veneer itself) from the surface of your teeth where the veneers will be placed. Next, we will make an impression of your teeth in order to create custom-made veneers that fit the size and shape of your teeth. We will also match the color of your teeth using a tooth shade guide. When we are through, we will send this information to the dental laboratory so that they can make your veneers. In the meantime, we will place temporary veneers over the prepared teeth.
Once we receive your custom-made veneers, you will return to our office for placement. One of our dental professionals will check that the veneers match your mouth and look and feel right. Your temporary veneers will be removed and the permanent veneers placed on the teeth and bonded with a strong, adhesive dental cement. When the veneers are in place, we will check your bite to make sure that they are placed properly.
